Chlorine Dioxide Generators

[wpseo_breadcrumb]

Chlorine Dioxide (CIO2) gas is a highly effective disinfectant when dissolved in water. As a gas it appears as a dark yellow colour and is generated on site by specialist equipment.

Chlorine dioxide generators are often used to generate chlorine dioxide for the disinfection of water in applications where the pH of the water varies because chlorine dioxide is effective as a disinfectant across a wide range of pH values, unlike other chlorine compounds such as sodium hypochlorite.

Additionally, whereas chlorine and other related compounds form disinfection by-products, such as THMs (Trihalomethane), when they react with inorganic or organic matter. Due to its differing reaction chemistry Chlorine dioxide is a safer option as it does not produce such by-products. This safety aspect is another reason for its widespread use in the disinfection of water used in relation to human consumption, i.e. the food and beverage industry.

Prodose Ltd have over 10 years experience and are the UK’s leading specialists in specifying, installing and maintaining Chlorine Dioxide Generators and other water disinfection solutions. Our expert team offer customers an end to end water treatment service, from bespoke design and installation to chemical supply and post sale support and maintenance.

Over the past decade we have tailored Chlorine Dioxide Generator systems to projects of all sizes throughout the UK. Prodose are your one-stop shop for Chlorine Dioxide Water Treatment.

If you are considering Chlorine Dioxide water treatment for your disinfection needs, are looking to increase the capacity of an existing system or just have a question about clean water technology, please contact us as we are here to help.

If you think a Chlorine Dioxide generator might be the best way to go, it is worth getting the benefit of our advice first. We are not on commission and have no interest in selling devices unless they are the most appropriate and effective option for your particular process.

Chlorine Dioxide Generators

Chlorine dioxide is, quite simply, a more powerful oxidising agent than chlorine in every way. It works better as a disinfectant and has the advantage of also breaking down odours.

Analysis has shown that chlorine dioxide is capable of deactivating viruses and other pathogens that are not affected by chlorine. It is also more effective in proportion to concentration level. If a concentration of chlorine dioxide is compared to the exact same concentration of chlorine, the chlorine dioxide will work harder, destroying more spores and viruses.

Another advantage of chlorine dioxide is that it eliminates the formation and spread of trihalomethanes, also called haloforms, which are dangerous pathogens.

A further reason to use chlorine dioxide to treat drinking water is that it oxidises phenols, algae and the products of their decomposition, making them taste neutral.

Typical Applications

  • Potable water, particularly in complex water systems and for preventing and eliminating legionella
  • Water in beverage industry, breweries and food industry
  • Cooling water
  • Wastewater

Electrochlorination

Electrochlorination is the process of using salt, water and electricity to produce a low pH Sodium Hypochlorite solution directly on site. It is highly efficient because the system can respond to the levels of free chlorine in the water and apply dosing only when required.

Our range of AMPRO electrochlorinators are ideal for many of these applications and come with a full after sales support package. These machines are ideal for small footprint systems and have features such as integral hydrogen degassing, making them safer for installation by third parties.

Our advice is impartial, and we won’t advise a course of action or recommend a piece of equipment unless we know it offers a genuine benefit to your process.

Instrumentation & Control

Instrumentation and controllers are fundamental to our ability to control water treatment processes. It is through the use of reliable and accurate instrumentation that monitors key parameters within the water that we are able to provide information back to the controllers that in turn govern the process.

With a range of single parameter and multi-parameter controllers Prodose are able to supply instrumentation and control systems to meet the most difficult of disinfection control applications.
